Абстракт
Long waves arriving from the open sea can trigger intense resonant oscillations in bays when their periods align with the bays' natural oscillation periods. Oscillations in bays triggered by tsunamis and atmospheric forcing lead to the generation of a wide range of seiche modes in bays, including transverse seiche modes. At present, extreme modes are still poorly studied, especially for real bays. Therefore, it is of practical and scientific interest to study the occurrence of extreme modes in real bays. The paper reviews main features of seiche oscillations identified to date. A brief review of the literature on this topic is provided. The primary focus is on studies conducted at the Marine Hydrophysical Institute in Sevastopol over the past 10 years. This research can be applied to port safety design (traffic and mooring).
